Working as a Team
My strong preference is to work with clients iteratively to get to a result that all can understand and execute. Everyone has some “skin” in the development, so translating the plan to action works better.
Several approaches can be used to achieve the goal:
Side-by-side Mentoring/Coaching
I work directly with current and potential business leaders to provide support. This includes helping to specify process, providing needed internal communication, managing confidentiality and additional areas as needed in the specific situation.
Development of Staff Through Group Activity
I have at my disposal proven materials to use in discussion groups, classroom settings, or tutorials. As the staff begins to get traction, the program can be led by them, and I can be a ready backup.
Leadership of Staff Retreats
Getting the business leadership away from the office to achieve a goal works wonders for effectiveness. Whether it is a strategic direction or acquisition plan or other goal, the environment of a retreat location adds to the creativity and the commitment to the results when done.
Brainstorming Sessions to Create Idea Initiatives
Brainstorming can be a fast breakthrough technique for developing strategy, building a growth plan or targeting acquisitions. In a relative short space of time, e.g., a morning, excellent ideas can be created and organized.
Help to Secure Third Party Help
At some juncture, third party help will be needed if acquisitions, divestitures, or foreign expansion is the goal. Accountants, lawyers, local M&A specialists are examples of such third parties. My list of contacts is extensive. After contact, I can help the process of evaluating competitors, and chartering the chosen firm.
All of the approaches emphasize generating practical action to implement creative concepts. Strategies which stay on paper do no one any good.
